Red Filbert

Corylus avellana Zellernuss multi-stem

Also known as the Red Filbert, this is a great improvement on Corylus maxima Purpurea.

This rounded and rather rare tree looks spectacular in spring when it is festooned with pink catkins set against its rich purple foliage that turns dark green by early summer.

Delicious red Filbert nuts are an added bonus in the autumn. It is most attractive in gardens or parks and particularly effective when randomly scattered into a hedgerow.
