Description

Raised in France by Simon Louis nursery in the 1850s, this slow growing cultivar has an oval / compact habit and is superb as a street tree because its columnar form needs virtually no maintenance.

The crown on this tree stays closed even when the tree is mature.

Acer platanoides Columnare does well on most soil types tolerates air pollution and resists drought.

The Dutch have confused matters by calling several similar types ‘Columnare’ but by our reckoning they are all distinctly different so beware!!

From Barcham you will get the original and what we believe to be the best clone.

Mature height: 12-17m

Mature spread: 4-7m
