Description

This clonal selection of Betula pendula was propagated from a Yorkshire nursery who’s location led to the name we have given it.

Betula pendula Beverley Beauty is a native providence birch that packs a punch in terms of vigour and regularly ascending growth habit. Its bark is typical of its type though slightly more creamy brown when younger.

Like other Silver Birch, it thrives on free draining ground and being a pioneer species it readily grows in most areas. Birch are surface rooting so are the first trees to show drought stress after a period of hot and dry weather in the summer. However, they soon recover when conditions become more favourable. It is often believed that Silver Birch are a short lived tree but given good conditions they will live up to and even beyond 100 years. The oldest Silver Birch in the UK are estimated to be 130 years old and still going! Ideal for large gardens and parks,

Betula pendula Beverley Beauty also makes a good urban tree.

Mature height: 12-17m

Mature spread: 8-10m
