Description

Betula utilis Jacquemontii Doorenbos is one of our most popular trees and it is not difficult to see why!

It offers stunning white bark, architectural shape and uniformity, is effective as a standard and a multi-stem coppice and can be planted singularly and in groups. A simply stunning tree!

There are so many differing clones of this Birch tree on the market under the banner of Betula utilis that the trade is tying itself in knots deciding what they should call theirs! At Barcham, if you are looking for a Birch tree with a stunning white bark, we classify it simply and plainly as Betula utilis Jacquemontii and you will not be disappointed!

The bark of this elegant himalayan birch tree peels each year, revealing the next layer of perfectly white bark which is accentuated by lenticels lines. It has delicate oval shaped, dark green leaves which turn golden yellow in the autumn and decorate the tree perfectly.

Betula utilis is a native of the Western Himalayas, it is a medium sized tree at maturity with ascending branches that produce a neat and tidy broadly pyramidal shaped crown.

This medium sized Birch tree is extremely suited to a wide range of planting schemes in the UK, from urban planting right through to gardens and parklands. Betula utilis Jacquemontii is a very versatile tree which is tolerant of most soil types and can be planted effectively as a single focal specimen or in groups to exaggerate the effect of the gleaming white bark.

Like Betula pendula, we produce this tree as both a standard specimen tree and a multi-stem.

Mature height: 7-12m
