This clonal selection of Carpinus betulus is a neater version that its parent, producing a more compact and regular crown at maturity.

It is not fastigiate though it may give that appearance when young. It forms a oval crown at maturity.

Thriving on most free draining soils, Carpinus betulus Lucas is particularly happy on heavier clay soils.
