Description

This spectacular red stemmed dog wood rose to fame in the 1960s.

Winter stem colour is one of the few ways to retain vivid interest in a garden for those dreary winter months and the best way to promote this is to routinely coppice down to 5cm above ground level every March. If left to its own devices the red stem colour is restricted to the outer edges of the plant and the thicker older stems lose their lustre.

This great garden plant thrives on most soils and is particularly effective when planted in groups next to contrasting white birch varieties. Strictly more of a shrub than a tree, we have included this
is it compliments so many others!
