The Golden Leyland Cypress is often considered more amenable than the green leaved form though in Ireland it has been so overplanted there is a lobby for making future plantings illegal!
However this is not the trees fault and it remains an excellent choice for evergreen hedging.
Slower growing and rather more useful for hedging than its green parent it is also rather smaller and the pale golden foliage adds to the interest of this attractive seedling which was raised in Co Down in the early 1960s.
Very good for coastal plantings where it tolerates salt laden winds.
It does well in most soils including chalk.
Mature height: 7-12m
Mature spread: 3-5m
