Introduced at the very end of the 1800s, this Chinese tree is actually capable of producing rubber through very fine latex produced within their green glossy leaves.
It forms a broadly pyramidal shape at maturity and will thrive on most free draining and fertile soils. This tree is quite unusual for the UK so is quite an interesting selection to throw into the mix for an arboretum as not many can identify it!
It prefers full sun but is fully hardy down to about -20 degrees Celsius once mature. Its flower and seed is hardy worthy of notice but its lustrous leathery leaves are lovely in the summer.
Mature height: 12-17m
Mature spread: 7-9m
