There are several Dutch clones of purple foliaged weepers but this one is the pick of them for habit and leaf colour.
The leaf size is slightly larger than a rival clone, Purple Fountain, and they emerge deep red before hardening to a rich purple by mid summer. Even though this is a true weeper, this tree remains fairly narrow so is great for gardens as well as parks.
It thrives on most free draining soils and its dark foliage and weeping branches gives excellent contrast within the landscape. Unlike other clones, there is nothing wishy washy about its foliage display which can harden to a black side of purple by late summer.
Mature height 7-12mm
Mature spread: 3-7m
