Description

A Fastigiate Beech with stunning dark foliage.

Raised from the same seed source as Dawyck Gold in 1969 from a Dawyck at Trompenburg Arboretum near Rotterdam in Holland it won the Award of Garden Merit in both 1973 and 2002.

It remains a rare but stunning architectural specimen tree.

A little narrower than Dawyck Gold but not quite as dense.

It makes a splendid tree for parks and verges and has striking deep purple foliage.

Beech thrives just about anywhere other than exposed and coastal locations.

As it is shallow rooted under planting is not recommended. It does well in most reasonably fertile well drained soils except heavy clay or light sand.

Mature height: 17-22m

Mature spread: 4-7m
