First discovered in Serbia in 1890, this selection is rarely seen in the UK. Its claim to fame is a wonderful spring flush of yellow foliage that hardens to a yellow green by late summer before turning to yellow once again in the autumn.
It forms a rounded habit at maturity and is smaller growing than Fagus sylvatica.
Thriving on most free draining soils, it gives great contrast, especially against a dark backdrop. There aren’t many yellows on the market so this is a nice addition to this range. We generally leave this clone fully branches to show off its golden leaves to the full and it is a good choice for large gardens and parkland.
Mature height: 7-12m
Mature spread: 6-9m
