Description
Introduced from Essex in 1949, this rosy red tinged fruiting desert apple is a firm favourite with its agreeable sharp flavour. If no other Malus is around it is best to include a crab apple such as Malus John Downie or Evereste as pollinator.
It will thrive on most soils including heavy clay but will benefit from keeping competition at bay around it, especially grass, to fulfil fruiting size potential. Lovely white flowers are borne in the spring and these produce the lush fruit for use in August / September which can be stored with success.
If you live in an area prone to rabbits or deer then we recommend rabbit guards for these trees
