I first saw this as a maturing specimen at Uppingham School arboretum in Rutland and its golden foliage bounced back against a barker backdrop. It is smaller growing than the green Dawn Redwood but apart from its yellow foliage is similar in every other way. (Mike Glover, Managing Director)
Importantly, its delicate yellow foliage doesn’t seem to scorch under the intense summer sun but this tree does thrive best in damp soils like its parent.
Its lovely pyramidal habit makes it suitable for medium gardens and parkland alike. There aren’t many yellow deciduous trees on the market and this one is one of the best for intensity of colour that is sustained all summer long.
Mature height: 12-17m
Mature spread: 4-8m
