Description

Vanessa has a more tree-like form than the species and was selected as a seedling in the Netherlands in the mid 1970s.

A great favourite at Barcham it produces small but vivid red flowers at maturity.

A small tree with a broad oval crown.

Vanessa gives a stunning display of autumn colour and is ideal for specimen planting in a park or large garden.

Prior to that it displays red shoots and bronze edges to its deep green leaves.

It does well on most soils and will tolerate chalk.
