In the Far East the canes of this Bamboo are used for walking sticks and umbrella handles while in America they are turned into fishing rods.
Introduced from China in the 1870s it won the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
This Bamboo forms clumps of canes which are bright green at first and then mature to a pale creamy yellow.
