Description

One of the most striking of Planes, it is also known as the Chennar Tree, and often provides shaded meeting places in southern European villages.

There is a wonderful example of its parent, Platanus orientalis, in the Bishops Palace garden in Ely not too far from Barcham.
This has similar, attractively flaking bark to the London Plane, but has deeply cut five lobed leaves.

A large tree with a generally rounded habit, it can attain a very great age. Magnificent in parkland and large estates as well as gracing the main arterial roads of central London.

Mature Height: 20m+
Mature spread: 12-18m
