Description

Bred by Mr Wildeman from the Netherlands around 1850, this European variety of cooking pear is one of the most popular.

Showy white flowers appear in May followed by green foliage and then fruits. leaves turn yellow in autum before falling.

The fruit which first appear in July are ready for harvesting in September/October. The small hard green/brown pears are ideal for poaching and stewing and once boiled the flesh turns a reddish purple in colour.

This self pollinating pear can be susceptible to fireblight.
