An introduction from the USA, where it is referred to as ‘Pringreen’. It is an exceptional tree with ascending branches forming a very columnar crown, akin to our Quercus robur Fastigiata.
Its leaves are lustrous and shiny, particularly pleasing in the summer when the sun shines on them. However, its real glory is in its autumn colour which can turn to vivid scarlet when supported by a free draining soil without alkalinity.
Great for urban areas where space is restricted, this clone is also a good choice for medium sized gardens.
This clone was spotted within a seedling bed in New Jersey in the 1990s and was raised by a nurseryman working for the famous Princeton Nursery. A good find! We are sure this clone will be used more in the UK in the years to come as it ticks many of the boxes for urban planners
Mature height 7-12m
Mature spread: 3-5m
