Description

The native Bay Willow is sometimes found growing wild in northern areas of Britain and developed its name from the Norwegians who use it as a substitute for tender Laurus nobilis as its foliage is pleasantly aromatic when crushed.

A most beautiful medium size tree with a rounded crown at maturity.

Catkins are produced at the same time as the leaves in late spring. Very good for parks and wetland areas it is both vigorous and vibrant.

It is often overlooked by specifiers but is a lovely native tree that could be used more often.

This tree is always a good one to throw into the mix on a plant identification competition as it tends to catch a lot of people out.

Mature height: 7-12m

Mature spread: 8-12m
