Product details
Sorbus commixta ‘Olympic Flame’ – also known as the Japanese Scarlet Rowan or ‘Dodong’ – is a striking tree originating from Japan.
Its glossy green leaves bring freshness throughout the growing season before transforming into fiery shades of orange and red in autumn. By late summer, clusters of white spring flowers give way to rich dark-orange berries, adding seasonal interest. The young trunk is characteristically marked with decorative lenticels.
This rowan grows best in free-draining soils and, like others of its kind, should be planted away from hard surfaces that reflect excessive heat and light.
First selected from seed in 1976 by a Swedish botanist, ‘Olympic Flame’ has since become a highly admired choice across Europe, valued for its exotic appearance and year-round appeal.
Mature height: 3–7m
