It is quick to grow especially in the first ten years or so after which it becomes more sedate.
The much tighter columnar habit of this medium to large cultivar makes it considerably more suitable as a street tree than the species.
It also tolerates air pollution and windy sites. The trunk has a soft grey bark and foliage provides very good autumn colour.
It thrives on most soils.
Mature height: 12-17m
Mature spread: 10-15m
