Developed around 1977, this is thought to be an improved clone of the superb ‘Bloodgood’. In truth there is little to choose between them so try not to agonise over the choice!
We grow this as a fmulti-stemmed tree so it is best suited for gardens and parks. It thrives on most soils. The glorious display of summer leaves provide great contrast in any garden so time should be taken to carefully select its planting position to achieve greatest effect. As a rule the eye picks up on deep reds and purples first, if you place it further back in your landscape it draws the focus through your garden rather than blocking off the view behind it.
Mature height: 3-7m
Mature spread: 2-3m
