Cultivated in Europe for its fabulous autumn colour and in America for the manufacture of furniture this large tree has a rounded habit.
The dark green leaves slightly purple underneath turn a brilliant scarlet in autumn.
It tolerates air pollution and wet soil.
However as a warning note for all the attributes of this tree it is very rarely seen thriving in the UK as it is dependent on accessing the trace element manganese which it can only derive from acid soils.
This is also true of the subsequent varieties with the possible exception of Red Sunset that we have seen thriving in London so beware!
Please refer back to Acer freemanii Autumn Blaze and Acer freemanii Armstrong if you haven’t the soil to support your choice
Mature height: 17-22m
Mature spread: 8-12m
