This new selection originated from J van Roessel in Switzerland and was introduced into the European market in 1994. In effect it is a very uniform version of seed grown Betula pendula with a gleaming white bark so it makes an ideal choice for avenue planting. The branches grow at a 45 degree angle from the stem and remain subordinate to the main trunk to retain a graceful pyramidal crown.
This tree has great apical dominance so lends itself to crown lifting over time if needed. It is a splendid choice for the urban environment and quick to grow on most soils. The bark is nearly as good as Betula utilis Jacquemontii so we can expect to see a lot more of this clone in future years.
Mature height: 12-17m
Mature spread: 8-10m
