Description
A hawthorn of garden origin dating from around 1870 that won the Award of Garden Merit in both 1924 and 2002.
This clone is particularly resistant against rust. It makes a small densely headed tree with glossy deep green foliage which lasts through to December.
The orange-red haws are also long lasting often right through winter and they contrast well with the dark foliage.
A good choice for urban and coastal planting it is also tolerant of air pollution.
It does well in most soils including very dry and wet soils.
Like many clonal variations it is difficult to tell apart from its parent variety.
