Raised in New York by Eva Maria Sperbes in the 1970s, it is a cross between Magnolia acuminata and denudata. One of the finest yellows.
The jury is still out on its ultimate shape and vigour as it is so recent an introduction.
This lovely small conical tree produces clear, pale primrose yellow cup shaped flowers in the spring that are nicely fragrant. The flowers tend to be a deeper yellow the cooler its position, but make sure it is well placed for spring viewing as its show can be breathtaking.
